Are you interested in a career in healthcare? MCHS offers opportunities for students to learn about a variety of health care careers in clinical and non-clinical settings, or for the college student to obtain experiences for degree requirements.
The job shadowing program pairs up a student with a health care professional to observe everyday skills, responsibilities, and communication while performing in a patient care environment. Opportunities to observe clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals are available in the following areas:
●Patient Care Technician
●Physical or Occupational Therapy
●Plant Operations/Facilities Services
Who Can Participate?Any individual 16 years of age and older, is eligible to job shadow. High school students deciding on a career path who want to observe a professional doing everyday activities, may apply for a four-hour or eight-hour job shadow. High school and college students needing to meet requirements to enter an academic program of study may apply for a multi-day job shadow.
Why Consider a Health Care Profession?●To make a difference in the quality of life and care of patients
●To be a part of a team and family-oriented environment
●To have the opportunity to meet new people every day
●To work in a high technology/fast-paced field with state-of-the-art equipment
What Will I Learn? The Job Shadow Program is an observation-only experience in a select department within MCHS based on availability. The participant will have an opportunity to observe and interact with a health care worker as they go about their daily activities. Hands-on patient care isn't part of the job shadow experience and will not be permitted.
Who is a Preceptor? You will be assigned to an experienced professional in your area of interest who enjoys working with students. The preceptor is an expert in their field who is willing to share career information and review what a typical day in their life looks like.
The purpose of the job shadow experience is to foster an awareness of the skills required for a specific career and to experience health care culture.
How Do I Apply?Thank you for your interest in job shadowing. Applications must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the first date requested to job shadow. Questions can be directed to email@example.com
If you have any questions please contact HR at 870-838-7472, firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to 870-838-7419.
What are the Roles and Responsibilities of the Student? The student should come prepared for the job shadow experience like it is the first day on a new job. The student should arrive to shadow with baseline knowledge of the career, questions for the preceptor, and a willingness to explore possibilities..
Sending a request for a job shadow experience does not guarantee that one will be available.
Students may be asked to leave while job shadowing due to unforeseen circumstances. If this happens, attempts will be made to try to reschedule the job shadow.
